Visiting Mount Paihia
While it is possible to visit Mount Paihia anytime of the year, the best time to do so is during the dry season from November to April. This will ensure that you have the best experience. In addition, you’ll be able to take advantage of the dry climate and see a variety of native birds.
This hike offers incredible views and is free of charge. For those who are reasonably fit, Mount Paihia is not difficult to climb. If you’re unsure how to start, you can always ask your guesthouse for directions. Generally, the hike starts about 30 meters up the road.
After taking a stroll around the picturesque town, you can visit the Marine Museum, which is home to over 40 models of traditional Polynesian boats. You can also check out the American Canons, which were built during the island’s American military base during World War II. Two of them are easy to visit, but you’ll need a 4×4 and guides to reach the other six.
