Happiness is a Full Tank

happiness is a full tank

Happiness is a state of consistently finding fulfillment in the sum of life’s experiences. This more broad approach to happiness avoids the objection that wealth and income matter for well-being.

It also explains why countries like the US are dropping on the world happiness scale while Scandinavian nations continue to surge ahead.

1. Keeping a smile on your face

Happiness is often defined as a fleeting emotion or feeling that is triggered by positive life experiences. However, happiness also has a deeper meaning that goes beyond an instantaneous feeling or emotion. It can be seen as a state of being and a way of life. It is also known by other names including subjective well-being, flourishing and eudaimonia.

A smile is one of the most powerful ways to express happiness. It reduces stress, boosts your mood, makes you feel better about yourself, and can even bring happiness to the people around you.

Try smiling at everyone you meet for a full day and see how you feel. Keep a smile journal and write down all the triggers that make you smile each day.

2. Taking care of yourself

It’s important to take care of yourself, especially in these extra-stressful times. What it means to take care of yourself will be different for everyone, but you can start by looking at your life and identifying which needs need to be met. You may need to address things like getting enough sleep, eating healthy foods and reducing stress.

It’s also a good idea to spend time doing things that make you happy. This could include exercising, listening to music or just spending time with friends. Laughing is one of the best things you can do for your mental health, so try to add some humor to your day! Taking time to unplug from your electronics and limiting social media use can help reduce stress too.

3. Taking care of others

Taking care of others is an indication that you really do care about them and their well-being. It means listening to them, trying to understand their point of view and offering a solution to help solve their issues. It’s also an opportunity to learn about other people and to build a stronger connection with them. This could be as simple as asking someone about their weekend or how they’re feeling. They will appreciate you asking.

5. Keeping your gas tank full

There is a myth that if you keep your gas tank more than half full, it prevents the remaining gasoline from evaporating and saves money. Snopes ran the numbers and found that this is not true. In fact, the opposite is true: keeping your gas tank low can actually cost you more in the long run by increasing the chances of dirt and debris settling in the fuel tank. So, next time you see a cheap price, make it a point to fill up. Your car and wallet will thank you. (And don’t forget about those roadside assistance plans for when you need help!).)
