Spending money on experiences and possessions that reflect your personality and identity can be a great way to increase happiness. A 2016 study found that people who bought things that aligned with their personality were happier with those purchases than those who didn’t. For example, if you’re an adventuresome person, buying a car that will take you on exciting road trips will give you more joy than a new car purchased just for status.
